FAQs for Fat Freezing

  • Most Cooltech fat freezing treatments take around 70 minutes per area. Smaller areas, such as under the chin, may take less time. Your appointment also includes a consultation to make sure the treatment is tailored to your body goals.

  • No — fat freezing isn’t painful, but it can feel unusual at first. When the handpiece is applied, you’ll notice a strong suction as the skin and fat are gently drawn into the cooling cup. This may feel strange or slightly intense for the first few minutes. As the controlled cooling begins, the area quickly becomes numb, and most clients find the rest of the treatment very comfortable.

  • Cooltech fat freezing targets stubborn fat by cooling fat cells to the point where they crystallise and naturally die off. Over the following weeks, your body’s metabolic processes gradually eliminate these dead fat cells for good.

    Unlike dieting and exercise, which only shrink fat cells (allowing them to expand again later), Cooltech permanently removes treated fat cells with little chance of them returning. This makes it ideal for spot reduction of soft, pinchable fat in areas such as the tummy, thighs, arms, back, and under the chin.

    Cooltech is not a weight loss treatment, but a body contouring solution designed to reduce pockets of fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise. As with all treatments, visible results vary from person to person.

  • Some clients begin noticing changes in the treated area as early as three weeks after their Cooltech fat freezing session. The most visible results typically appear between two to six months, as the body naturally processes and eliminates the frozen fat cells.

  • Most clients notice a difference after their very first treatment. For best results, we usually recommend 2–3 sessions on the same area, as this is when clients are most thrilled with their outcomes.

  • For the best results from your Cooltech fat freezing session:

    • Avoid blood-thinning medications and anticoagulants for 7 days before and 7 days after treatment (unless advised otherwise by your doctor).

    • Support your body’s natural elimination process with lymphatic drainage or gentle massage before your session. This helps stimulate circulation and may enhance fat removal after treatment.

  • You are an ideal candidate for cooltech treatment if:

    *you are generally within, or just a little over, your appropriate weight, but have fat bulges that don’t respond to diet and exercise;

    * you have post-pregnancy fat deposits on your tummy area;

    *you have ‘middle-age spread’—bulges on the sides and front of your abdomen;

    *you have ‘love handle’ fat deposits on the sides of your body;

    *you have rolls of fat on your back;

    *you have upper arm or inner/outer thigh fat deposits.

  • Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding, has cryoglobulinaemia, paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria, known sensitivity to cold, a bleeding disorder, or is on blood thinning medication should not be treated. The treatment area must be free from impaired circulation, recent surgery or scar tissue, fragile skin, eczema, dermatitis, rashes, impaired skin sensation, open or infected wounds and hernias. It is not possible to perform treatment over implanted devices such as pacemakers or defibrillators.

  • Cooltech in non-invasive. It reduces fat without surgery: this is a “walk in-walk out” treatment that helps to re-shape your body, with visible and long-lasting results.

  • When the applicator is removed, the treated area will feel cold and firm. A 2 minute massage will help restore the frozen fat layer back to normal and will also assist in optimising your results. The treated area may remain tender and there may be some slight tingling or numbness for up to 4 weeks or more after the treatment. This is a normal and expected part of the treatment process. If you develop cramps, you can apply cool packs to the area and use compression garments. You can also take paracetamol for any discomfort, if that is not sufficient, please contact the clinic for further treatment.
